His eyes turn to the burn scars on the side of her neck, and he recalls how he was responsible for them. As a boy, he’d spilled scalding water on her, and she ignored her own pain to comfort him as he sobbed. Jinwoo summons a vial of the Elixir of Life, but he doesn’t know what to expect. He gently props her up, pours the liquid into her mouth with a shaking hand, and waits. Awakening Jinwoo’s mother is bathed in a soft glowing light. The burn scars disappear and a healthy pallor returns to her face. Jinwoo looks down, thinking about how everything he’s gone through has been for this. When the moonlight falls over her bed, Jinwoo gasps. His mom is sitting up, awake for the first time in four years, with a kind smile on her face. She gently asks about his sister, Jinah, and places a hand on his cheek as she notices his wounds. Jinwoo’s emotions finally spill over as she thanks him. Later, Jinah laughs nervously as Jinwoo and their mom survey the mess she made in their apartment while he was away. Their mom smiles and suggests cleaning it up together. While they pick up, Jinah notes they’ve lived there since she was born. While they chat, Jinwoo is glad to have them all together, but he can’t help feeling uneasy about the lines he had to cross to get here. His mom breaks into his thoughts by asking if they’ve heard from their father. They haven’t. She tells Jinwoo and Jinah that he was a firefighter before he was a hunter, and the two are following in his footsteps by working hard to save others one day. Friendly (?) Competition The Hunters Association finally gets in touch with Jinwoo about the upcoming Jeju Island raid. He goes to their headquarters to hear them out, but considers that he doesn’t need to level up any longer now that his mother is well. He’s just about to give his answer when he senses incredible magic power: Baek and another S-Rank hunter are sparring. Chairman Go offers Jinwoo the rare chance to watch. Baek’s fangs and claws are out as he fights; his magic power transforms him into a monster himself when he’s at full power, so he has to hold back so he doesn’t hurt fellow S-Rank hunter Ma Dongwook.
