A cumulative total view numbers of the music video for "The Cruel Angel's Thesis" ("Zankoku na Tenshi no Te-ze" in Japanese), the opening theme song for the 1995-1996 TV anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion , has finally surpassed 100 million on YouTube. Japanese record company King Records' official X (formerly Twitter) announced the news on November 20. Singer Yoko Takahashi originally released "The Cruel Angel's Thesis" from King Records' Star Child label as her 11th CD single on October 25, 1995. Along with the success of the anime, the song also became a huge hit, and 29 years after the single was released, it remains not only a symbolic song of the Evangelion series, but also has a high level of popularity and recognition in Japan and abroad. The full music video for "The Cruel Angel's Thesis” featuring various visuals and memorable scenes from the anime started streaming on YouTube on June 20, 2018, when the maxi-CD single of the song and "Tamashi no Refrain" was released in Japan.
