RECS: Check out The Plot In You’s Ethan Yoder’s Favorite Anime
When he’s not bringing the noise and energy for packed crowds each night, The Plot In You bassist Ethan Yoder is throwing himself into his latest anime obsessions. So naturally, we had to ask him for his top 10 list! Ethan will take the rest from here! Hey guys I'm Ethan from The Plot In You, and here's my top 10 anime list. But before I get into that I’d like just to throw out a couple of honorable mentions. Ethan's Honorable Mentions Sword Art Online Tokyo Ghoul Hunter x Hunter Cowboy Bebop Zoids Image via IMDb Gundam Wing Yu Yu Hakusho Yu-Gi-Oh! JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure My Hero Academia Ethan's Anime Movie Recommendations The Boy and the Heron Image via GKIDS "Great score. Great characters. Great movie honestly." - Ethan Yoder My Neighbor Totoro Image via MAX "If you're looking for something cute, fun and light-hearted." - Ethan Yoder Your Name. "If you're trying to cry." - Ethan Yoder Ethan's Top 10 Anime List 10. Pokémon Indigo League Image via Netflix This is on this list mostly for nostalgia. It was the first anime I ever watched and what got me into anime. This anime went far beyond the TV show, the card game and the Game Boy games. It’s just all-around top-tier. 9. Dragon Ball Z Kind of like with Pokémon , this is somewhat on the list for nostalgia reasons. I know there's Dragon Ball Super (which is newer) and the Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movies, but Dragon Ball Z is nostalgic for me. That’s why it’s on the list. 8. Death Note This is probably the first non-action/non-traditional shonen anime I ever got into. I would definitely recommend that everyone check it out if you have the chance. It has some of the most iconic characters in all of anime with Light and L, and the way they use their wit and minds instead of just brute force? I’m really into that. 7. VINLAND SAGA One of the things I really love about VINLAND SAGA is the contrast between season one and season two. Season one starts out kind of like a lot of shonen anime where it's very revenge-based after Thorfinn sees his father get killed in front of him. But in season two, everything switches up with Thorfinn wanting to accomplish things through peace. 6. Naruto and Naruto Shippuden As far as character development and an anime that's able to get you attached to the characters, I'd say Naruto is probably one of the best. It really gets you attached to the characters and you can relate to a lot of them in a lot of ways. 5. JUJUTSU KAISEN This anime is pretty unique in its power scaling. I've never seen anything like it. I've actually caught up on the manga, so I kind of know what's going on a little bit past the anime. One thing I really love about JUJUTSU KAISEN is that no characters are safe. Getting attached to a character is almost a bad idea because you honestly never know what's going to happen. I really love that about the writing. 4. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba , kind of like Naruto , has a ton of great side characters. Then there’s Tanjiro, our protagonist, who's one of the purest-hearted characters in any media form, not just anime. Also, a fun fact, Demon Slayer is actually the first anime I got my wife to watch and, of course, she ended up loving it. 3. One Piece One of the things I love most about One Piece is the loyalty between Luffy and his crew. It's absolutely unbelievable to watch. They will literally do anything for him and he will do anything for them to have all of their dreams come true. Eiichiro Oda is the GOAT and the way he foreshadows and brings stuff back from Episode 100 through to Episode 1000, it's honestly insane. I don't know how he keeps up with all the content he's written. 2. Attack on Titan With Attack on Titan , a lot like One Piece , the foreshadowing is absolutely insane. I’m actually on my second watch-through of Attack on Titan right now and there's so many things that you see for the second time. You're like, “Holy crap, I can't believe I missed this,” and it's just surprises around every corner. Attack on Titan was one of my first week-to-week anime titles and it went on for 10 years, so the anticipation of the week-to-week episodes and the gap between season one and season two... I loved it. 1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood The bond that Ed and Al have, I feel like you can relate that to a lot of different people in your life, whether it be siblings, parents, your loved ones, or anyone you hold close. It’s such a well-done story and beautifully made. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood really embodies, “It takes a village to get something done.” The Elric brothers wouldn't have made it half as far as they needed to if not for everyone around them trying to help them get where they needed to go. Be sure to catch The Plot In You on their current tour! You can get your tickets here . Check out the video for their brand new single “Closure” here .
