Light Novels are known for having atrociously long titles, and this applies to The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1. The series with a big name and even bigger aspirations just aired its first episode today. Let’s see how it did in this review!
The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat, or Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei suru is an action fantasy anime based on a light novel written by Rui Tsukiyo. The anime is being directed by Tamura Masafumi, who is known for previously directing anime such as Ange Vierge and Two Car.
The anime is being animated by Studios Palette and Silver Link. Studio Palette is a new studio with barely any prior anime on their belts. In contrast, Silver Link has been in the game for more than a decade and has produced anime such as Kokoro Connect and The Great Jahy Won’t Be Defeated.

Let’s first address the elephant in the room- Yes, the show is an Isekai. That means it comes with all the baggage and garbage attached to that particular genre of anime. The start of the anime is derivative, and it does not hold much value if you know that the main character will be reborn any second. The series is also written by the now notorious writer of Redo of Healer, Rui Tsukiyo. A ton of fanservice is, therefore, to be expected.
However, in The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1, the series looked to address both of these doubts directly and majorly succeeded in doing so. The show hoodwinked and bamboozled the viewer in its very first scene, making us think the theme was going to be more sexual than it is. The scene then bled into a great action scene that told us a lot about the main character’s personality, the titular “World’s Finest Assassin”.

The assassin is given a task so intriguing that I wonder why it hasn’t been done before. Maybe it has, and I missed the particular series, but it certainly hasn’t been done as much as it needs to.
The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1 clarifies early on that the assassin isn’t a good guy. He is just a protagonist, and that too because of circumstance. Things like this always add an edge to the show that is much appreciated. The twist at the end of the episode was also genuinely interesting and one that I’ve wanted to be made into an anime for quite a while now. I hope that the creators do it justice.
There were also some side characters, although I’m not very sure about their involvement in the show’s future as the twist at the end negates everything that had happened in The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1 so far, except the character development and introduction of the assassin. The opening theme does show some of them, so they might reappear later on in the season. Overall, the story started as derivative and unoriginal, and it quickly morphed into one with real intrigue.

The show starts with a very catchy opening that grabs your attention as soon as the show is turned on. The animation in the opening is also solid and very nice to look at. The music used throughout the episode wasn’t very noticeable or worth mentioning, as nothing stood out in the way that the opening did. The ending also seemed a little slow in the first listen, but it will take a while to form a full opinion.
The animation in The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1 looked spotty in places, largely in places where it used CGI. The anime world has yet to figure out how to work that properly, and this show is no exception. The colors also look a bit grubby and dirty, but that’s something that could easily be an aesthetic of the show. Overall, the art and animation in the premiere episode were a mixed bag for sure.

The World’s Finest Assassin Episode 1 had a promising start that demonstrated the show has promise despite being an Isekai. The show managed to hit the right notes in its first outing, and I will watch its future with great interest.
