 GARO Franchise 20th Anniversary Movie TAIGA Hits Japanese Theaters October 17
The official news blog for the GARO tokusatsu franchise announced today that its new feature film <GARO> TAIGA is set to release in Japan on October 17, 2025. The film will be produced as part of the previously-reported franchise's 20th anniversary project. The blog and official X (formerly Twitter) has also released a teaser visual for the film. The tagline reads: "That thought becomes a sword--." Teaser Visual RELATED: GARO Tokusatsu Franchise Gets 20th Anniversary Movie This Fall As its title suggests, the protagonist of the film is Taiga Saejima, the father of the protagonist, Kouga Saejima. It depicts the activities of the young Taiga, which have not been revealed until now. Keita Amamiya ( Zeiram , Kamen Rider ZO ), the original creator of the franchise, serves as director on a screenplay by himself. It has been six years since Amamiya directed and wrote the screenplay for a theatrical film in the franchise, since Garo: Under the Moonbow in 2019. "I feel very happy that we can bring you a new film on the 20th anniversary of GARO's birth," said Amamiya. "And what we should depict in the GARO franchise has not changed a bit over the past 20 years. I sincerely hope that this film will become a hope for the future of the GARO franchise that started with Kouga Saejima, and that it will be loved by everyone." The GARO franchise started its history with the first TV series which aired for 25 episodes from October 2005 to March 2006, and has continued to be developed in various sequels, spin-offs, movies, and anime series. Currently, Crunchyroll streams two of the GARO anime series — the second TV anime series in 2015-2016, GARO: CRIMSON MOON , and the third TV anime series in 2017-2018, GARO -VANISHING LINE- .
