Heavy Metal L-Gaim Anime Gets 40th Anniversary Blu-ray Box in February 2025
Sunrise's classic robot TV anime Heavy Metal L-Gaim aired for 54 episodes from February 1984 to February 1985. It was renowned Japanese manga artist, animator, mecha and character designer Mamoru Nagano's first major work, for which he designed all the robots and characters. To commemorate the 40th anniversary, the anime's first Blu-ray box is set to release in Japan on February 26, 2025. This is the first time this anime has been released on Blu-ray format in Japan. The 10-disc set "Heavy Metal L-Gaim Dreamers Box Set" includes the TV series' all 54 episodes, two re-cap episodes, and the three-episode OVA ( "Pentagona Window," "Fairwell My Lovely," "Full Metal Soldiers" ), as well as a 60-page booklet and six bonus CDs. The price is 74,800 yen (including tax / 499 USD). A special promotional video for the 40th anniversary featuring the TV anime's second opening theme "Kaze no No Reply" sung by Maya Ayukawa is now streaming on Sunrise's official YouTube channel . Also on the same February 26, 2025, "Heavy Metal L-Gaim 40th Official Book: Dreamers Again" will be released to commemorate the 40th anniversary. The product is a set of two books: "Mk-I," which allows readers to look back on 40 years of Heavy Metal L-Gaim , and "Mk-II," which thoroughly covers the setting materials at the time of broadcast, including early designs of the characters and mechas. The box illustrations are newly drawn by Toshiyuki Kubooka (characters) and Fumi Nakamori (mechanicals). The price is 11,000 yen (73 USD).
