Mieruko-chan Horror Manga Gets Live-Action Movie in Early Summer 2025
A live-action film adaptation of Tomoki Izumi's horror manga series Mieruko-chan is officially set to release in Japan in the early summer of 2025. Yoshihiro Nakamura ( Shinobi no Kuni ) serves as director on a screenplay also by himself. The film's official website and X (formerly Twitter) have opened with a teaser visual introducing Nanoka Hara as the protagonist, Miko Yostuya. The manga has been serialized in the ComicWalker (now KadoComi) website since 2018 and has published ten tankobon volumes. It has been viewed more than 85 million times on the site and has printed more than three million copies in Japan. Nanoka Hara has been active as a child actor since she was six. Among anime fans, she is best known as the voice of Suzume Iwato, the protagonist of Makoto ShinkaI's 2022 anime feature film, Suzume . "I remember how happy I was to be offered the role of Miko. I was instantly captivated by what a novel and interesting setting it was," said Hara. "I couldn't stop laughing when I read the screenplay because this is a horror film, but my role just concentrates on ignoring ghosts. I was both nervous and excited to be working with director Nakamura. When he was directing the film at the set, he would always run up to me, and look me in the eye and give me instructions, even though he is a very famous director. He told me that he was actually not good at horror, and thanks to the very jovial director, the shooting was a lot of fun. I hope you are looking forward to this completely new horror film, which will be filled with youth, comedy, and human drama!" Nanoka Hara Interview Video The TV anime adaptation of the Mieruko-chan manga aired for 12 episodes from October to December 2021. All the episodes are available on Crunchyroll . Yen Press, which is releasing the manga in English , describes the series as such: A normal girl was living a normal life-until she wasn't. One day, she could see…everything. What’s a girl to do when hideous monsters appear no matter which way she turns? And on top of that, nobody else can see them! Obviously, there’s only one thing that makes sense—ignore them. Kinda hard to put theory into practice, though, when the ghosts know she’s watching… Source : "Mieruko-chan" live-action film official website / X (formerly Twitter) ©2025 “Mieruko-chan” Production Committee
