The official website and Twitter for Mayu Murata’s Honey Lemon Soda launched today, confirming the series will receive an anime adaptation. No release date for the anime was announced at the time of reporting. Teaser visual "Wha, Wha, What!" the manga author Murata commented on her surprise. " Honey Lemon will be adapted into anime! How is that possible... I am filled with joy and gratitude! Thank you so much!!! I'm looking forward to seeing the characters in motion with their voices, and I'll continue to work harder on my manga!" Hiroshi Nishikiori ( TRINITY SEVEN , IDOLiSH7 the Movie LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERIOD ) will direct the series at animation studio J.C. Staff. Akiko Waba ( Blue Reflection Ray ) will handle the series composition, with character designs by Aimi Tanaka ( Sugar Apple Fairy Tale ) and music by Akira Kosemura ( Summer Ghost ). Director Nishikori said, "As the title suggests, the original work is full of fresh, bouncy charm and the entire staff is working hard to deliver it more widely and further. Please look forward to seeing Uka, Kai and their classmates come alive vividly!" Murata began serialization of the manga in Shueisha’s Ribon in December 2015, with 24 volumes released in Japan to date and Volume 25 releasing in April 2024. The series has printed over 12 million copies to date. A live-action movie based on the series was released in July 2021. Yen Press releases the English version of the manga, and describes the series: Middle school left Uka Ishimori with nothing but scars—to the point where she’s forgotten how to laugh or cry or even say “hello.” But a chance reencounter with a boy with lemon-colored hair invigorates her, giving her hope that maybe, just maybe, life can be that much sweeter if she finally reaches out for help.
