Osamu Tezuka Museum Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Exhibition Dedicated to Phoenix
In 1994, the Osamu Tezuka Manga Museum opened its doors in Takarazuka City. Since then, the museum has shown works by manga and anime greats—Tezuka himself and others—in a series of rotating exhibits. To celebrate the museum's 30th anniversary, they'll be dedicating their latest exhibit to Phoenix : Tezuka's "life's work," a celebrated unfinished manga crossing eras far across time. The series began in the July 1954 issue of Manga Shonen and continued across multiple publications until Tezuka's passing in 1989. Since then, it has been adapted into live-action and anime films, as well as a Takarazuka musical revue. Visitors will be able to peruse more than 120 handwritten manuscripts from the manga, such as this one: RELATED: Upcoming Art Exhibition Pays Tribute to Late Manga Artist Kana Hoshino There will also be corners showing off 1997's "Earth Edition" and the various versions that have been released over the years. 30th Anniversary Exhibition: "Phoenix: Osamu Tezuka's Lifework" opens March 1 and runs until June 23. 2024 also marks the 70th anniversary of the incorporation of Kohama and Yoshimoto into Takarazuka City—yet another reason for the choice of exhibition. A phoenix figures prominently into the city's 70th anniversary logo, bridging the past and future much as Tezuka's legendary character did. Source: Comic Natalie
