Octavio Almost Didn't Audition for Holostars
Octavio is authentic in everything he does, whether it's streaming, creating music, or enjoying his favorite treats like chocolate or instant noodles. And to think, the puppeteer almost skipped his Holostars audition! Check out the interview to learn all about Octavio's first three months as a vtuber, then stick around for his top ten favorite anime of all time. Thanks for chatting with us! Can you introduce yourself to Crunchyroll’s readers? Octavio: Octohayo beautiful Crunchyroll readers! The name’s Octavio, starts with an O and ends with an O, easy to memorize! I am the Opulent, Octatonic, Operatic Puppeteer of Bounty Hunter Unit ARMIS of Holostars ENGLISH. Nice to meet you! Congratulations on your debut! How did you prepare for your first stream? Octavio: Thank you! I have to say, I was extremely prepared going into my debut stream because I had the pleasure of working closely with my amazing managers, the ARMIS boys and the rest of our hardworking staff and artists to make everything that I wanted to do during my debut, the gimmicks and everything, a reality! Because of their help, my preparation can be boiled down to making a list of things to do like a mission list in an open world game and slowly checking the boxes until everything was complete. Once everything was done and ready, the confidence came after! What attracted you to the Vtuber world? What sort of things do you like to stream? Octavio: The most amazing thing about Vtubing is it’s a sort of singularity where I can express everything that I have learned and experienced in life and package it into one persona for the entertainment of everyone that is willing to listen! As such, my streams aren’t just mostly limited to games and chatting, but I also like doing music content, not just covers, but for example, making music from scratch because I do have some training in piano and guitar and experience with mixing and mastering as well. I also have experience in photography and cinematography, as well as using programs like After Effects so I also like to mix these skills in my streams in a creative way to hopefully create content people have never seen before. Describe your audition. What did you do when you found out you got in? Octavio: I remember I almost didn’t submit my audition that day that I did. I was filled with self-doubt that day and thought it would just be a waste of time. My best friend told me at 11 in the evening to JUST DO IT! And I did! I got a reply extremely quickly and the rest was history. When I got the email that I got in, I did what anyone would have done after a life-changing moment – GO OUT FOR SOME HOTPOT! I ate ungodly amounts of of beef that day! How have things been going for you in the three months since your debut? Octavio: The past three months have been what it probably feels to be a character in an anime going through many character development arcs with layers upon layers of substories involving both my brothers in ARMIS and all our fans! In short, it may have been just three months, but it feels like we've all been with each other for years now. So many crazy things have happened, so many unique streams and funny moments have made the past few months some of the best I've ever had in my life. Do you have a message for the fans who have stuck with you so far? Octavio: To the fans, I'm constantly surprised how you are all so dedicated, so fun to be around, and funny as well. I know we're the entertainers here but honestly, you entertain us as well, and as a puppeteer, that makes me really happy! So thank you members of the ARMADA and I hope all of you stick with us through thick and thin, and from the Badlands to the stars, until infinity. Whether you’re streaming or taking a day off, how do you start your mornings?  Octavio: I’ve been doing this thing lately where I set small goals for myself the moment I wake up before turning my PC on or checking my phone. I try my best the moment I wake up to do a few things like clean my room, exercise, washup/shower and have breakfast! Also, I load up on water the moment I wake up. And once all of that is done, I know that I deserve game time on my PC or console, or doomscrolling on my phone. SOMETIMES I fail doing these things though and just go straight to my PC and play some games or watch something, my eyes still partially closed XD Do you have any pre-streaming rituals or habits to prepare? Octavio: I do like having coffee around 30 minutes before I stream! I always want to make sure I keep my energy and enthusiasm up when I stream because that’s what I know my audience deserves day in and day out. I do just generally love coffee though so this is very easy for me to do. For karaoke streams, I definitely try to do warmups, and tongue twisters! Streaming’s a lot of work! What snacks keep you energized? Octavio: Chocolates! I have a sweet tooth so I always have some sort of chocolate when my brain needs sugar after a complicated in-game puzzle or a super difficult boss fight. I know I can’t always eat chocolate though so sometimes I mix it up with cookies and some chips here and there. Oh, also instant noodles! My favorite snack though is definitely this local snack which is basically deep-fried banana with a sugar-coated spring roll wrapper. Its cheap AND filling! Healthy? Probably not. It has banana though! What are you most excited about doing while streaming?  Octavio: When I start a stream, I’m always excited to catch up with chat, tell them what’s been going on in my life and knowing what’s up with theirs! 100% of the time they say the weirdest and funniest things and I think I generally end up enriched by their crazy stories and jokes. I’m always excited as well to spend more time with my brothers in ARMIS playing games and making memories and having silly fun! What top tips would you give to aspiring Vtubers/streamers?  Octavio: My advice to aspiring Vtubers/streamers/content creators is to always put yourself first in everything that you do. Don’t fall into the trap of needing your audience to show up first before doing anything cool. Your audience is important yes, but don’t be mistaken, your audience will trust YOU to do what’s best for your own brand and not the other way around. This way, everything that you do contributes to self-improvement and the building of your brand which is always going to be a net positive for you, whether people show up or not. Always strive to be better today than you were yesterday! Your time will come! What’s your relationship with anime like? What does anime mean to you? Octavio: Anime has provided me with a lot of determination and motivation in life. Life changing for me was definitely watching Tegen Toppa Gurren Lagann . It didn’t just expose me to incredible animation and art and the appreciation of it, but also taught me to break through my shell when it comes to pursuing things maybe I feel would amount to nothing. It taught me to believe in myself during the times when its hardest to do so. This is just one example out of a myriad of inspiring stories and incredible characters that have shaped my thinking and outlook on life. What's your favorite anime of all time? Ga-Rei-Zero . Finally, can you give a parting message to your fans and Crunchyroll’s readers?  Octavio: Thank you so much for supporting me and the rest of ARMIS’s debuts! It was extremely fun and life-changing and I hope all of you continue supporting us for many more years to come! This is just the beginning and we have so much more exciting things in store for you!
