Elden Ring fans have been waiting for a long time to get more details on the hotly-anticipated Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and Bandai Namco came through today with a bunch of details. The first gameplay reveal trailer made its way online, showing off a brand new map separate from the Lands Between, as well as some major enemy encounters and a June 21, 2024 launch date. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Gameplay Reveal Trailer RELATED: Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Expansion Now in Development In an exclusive interview with IGN , Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki said pretty much all he could about Shadow of the Erdtree and the land it occupies without spoiling things. According to Miyazaki, while the location "technically occupies the same space as the Lands Between," something story-related they can't reveal yet has caused a rift, forcing the player to visit it as a separate place. Miquella is a key part of the story and the players will be following him to find out what he's up to in this Land of Shadow. Beyond that, Shadow of the Erdtree promises a similar structure—with a size "comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game"—complete with legacy and minor dungeons alike, as well as open field maps connecting it all. In addition to the base game, there are Collector's Edition versions that pack it with a statue of Messmer the Impaler, priced at $249.99. Here's the typically esoteric description for the DLC: The Land of Shadow. A place obscured by the Erdtree. Where the goddess Marika first set foot. A land purged in an unsung battle. Set ablaze by Messmer’s flame. It was to this land that Miquella departed. Divesting himself of his flesh, his strength, his lineage. Of all things Golden. And now Miquella awaits the return of his promised Lord. Source: Press Release
