The official website for the remake series of the Space Battleship Yamato anime franchise has announced that its latest installment ( Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199 ) ( Yamato yo Towa ni REBEL 3199 in Japan) will be released in theaters in seven chapters. Its first chapter, "The Black Invasion" ( Kuro no Shinryaku ) will open in Japan on July 19, 2024. Check out a teaser trailer for the first chapter below! It was also announced that sci-fi writer Harutoshi Fukui ( Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn ) will serve as general director, series composition and screenplay writer. He has already served as series composition and screenplay writer for the remake series' second installment, Space Battleship Yamato 2202 , in 2017-2019 and the third installment, Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage, in 2021-2022. Naomichi Yamato ( Shin Sekai Yori -From the New World assistant director) serves as director. Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199 is based on the feature film Be Forever Yamato ( Yamato yo Towa ni ) in 1980, and also includes some elements from the third original TV series Space Battleship Yamato III in 1980-1981. The anime's official website describes its story: The year is 2207 A.D. Two years have passed since the disappearance of Gamilas and Iskandar. Suddenly, a mysterious giant object, "Grand Reverse," appeared in the solar system.
