Anisong Duo ClariS Covers Wink's 1989 Hit Song "Sabishii Nettaigyo"
The official YouTube channel for anisong duo ClariS has started streaming their new music video "Sabishii Nettaigyo" (Lonely Tropical Fish), a cover of Japanese idol pop duo Wink's hit song in 1989. Their cover version was already released digitally on May 7 and their new concept EP including the song will be available on June 21.
The song was originally released as Wink's fifth single on July 5, 1989, and became their biggest hit in their career, winning the Japan Record Award (Grand Prize) at the 31st Japan Record Awards of the year.
If you are familiar with the Japanese live singing TV show "The Best Ten" in the 1980s, you can understand this clip is a well-made parody that recreates the atmosphere around that time. The two members of Wink were known for their performances in which they never smiled and sang without expression, and the two members of ClariS are doing the same thing in the clip.

The song was also performed at the second encore of their "ClariS SPRING LIVE 2023 ~Neo Sparkle~" concert, held at Zepp Haneda in Tokyo on May 7. It was their first concert at a live house in three years and eight months. At that concert, it was revealed that the original concept of ClariS when they were formed was "Wink for the 21st century."
