My Dress-Up Darling Anime Teams Up With Saitama City to Promote Local Doll Production

My Dress-Up Darling

Saitama City is bringing one of its local industries to Tokyo this November with the help of the My Dress-Up Darling anime. Saitama doll maker Suzuki Ningyo was the inspiration behind the Gojo doll shop in the anime and manga, which saw massive sales increases during the airing of the anime, helping to re-popularize the craft. To bring more promotion to the craft, the series and Saitama tourism agency have announced an exhibition of Saitama-made Iwatsuki Ningyo dolls.

The exhibition will show the traditional techniques of how Iwatsuki Ningyo dolls, as well as collections from around the city. It aims to help revitalize the industry and show off the attractiveness of the dolls and Saitama City itself, helping to drive tourism from domestic and international visitors, as Japan will be open to foreign tourists by the time the exhibition starts.

My Dress-Up Darling x Saitama City Iwatsuki Ningyo exhibition will be held on the 1st basement floor at KITTE Marounichi on November 26 and 27, 2022. The My Dress-Up Darling TV anime aired from January 9, 2022, to March 27, 2022, and was directed by Keisuke Shinohara and with animation produced at CloverWorks. A sequel to the anime is currently in production. The series streamed weekly right here on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:

Wakana Gojo is a high school boy who wants to become a kashirashi--a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Though he's gung-ho about the craft, he knows nothing about the latest trends, and has a hard time fitting in with his class. The popular kids--especially one girl, Marin Kitagawa--seem like they live in a completely different world. That all changes one day, when she shares an unexpected secret with him, and their completely different worlds collide.
