♦️ Story / Synopsis:

Impassive girl meets trouble maker in a brand new love story! After Mizutani Shizuku, a girl whose sole interest is studying is asked to deliver some handouts to Yoshida Haru, a boy who hasn't come to school after spilling blood on the first day 😂, she finds herself the target of his affection.

💬What the actual fc*k in the name of the lord? How can someone fall in love in that way?
On God, that is beyond my comprehension.😂

The story is about a boy and a girl fighting for love and friendship. Opening yourself up to others forces you to be truthful with yourself.

🍀 Review:

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun is a romance anime that tries and ever so slightly succeeds in setting itself apart from the standard mass of harem anime that's out there, but inevitably stumbles and falls on its own flaws. The opening song is pretty average for the Shoujo genre. The story is quite simplistic. This anime is good, is not the typical rom-com and the main character is interesting, it was truly one of the rare interesting characters. If it wasn't for the fact that he is almost like a sociopath.

Lovely and each with their unique quirks, which all served that comedic meeting of personalities in a way that reminded me a lot of Durarara or Kaichou wa Maid-sama. Shizuku in particular is a refreshing female lead who is still figuring out her feelings at the end of the show and seems happy to plug along at her own pace rather than rushing to a conclusive confession. Animation is very delightful.

There were some really good instances of depth and lighting, even in the last episode. This series is bold, colorful, using varied, solid strokes with full color. The character drawings are magnificent and really attractive. The comical sense was simply perfect for a Shoujo amateur.

🥱However, her cold view of life begins to change when she meets Haru Yoshida, a violent troublemaker who stopped attending class after getting into a fight early in the school year.

All in all, this is an entertaining little series. The overall tone is comedic, but it doesn't shy away from breaking into some more serious and romantic moments, which makes the show more touching than sappy.

😓If you already dislike Shoujo, we don't think this show will change your mind about it. In fact, it may worsen your hatred.

If you like the genre, but are sometimes frustrated with its predictability and tendency for melodrama, then you are in for a treat on this one. All in all, however, Tonari no Kaibutsu-Kun is an anime that tries to set itself apart, succeeds a little, but eventually stumbles and falls face-first into the mud, void of any real sense of clever and intriguing writing.
